How it all began.....

I started Beauty School in May 2012.  I enrolled and hoped for the best. Not  knowing what to expect, I felt the journey to gain my training would be fun & interesting. I was excited, it was a new beginning in my life's journey.

I have "some" at home experience of doing friends & family members hair. I've relaxed, use hair color, pressed, braided and done basic styles. I had no previous experience in barbering! I tried to cut my son's hair, upon making the decision I was not professional, and his cut was horrible....to the barber shop he went. ;)

My decision to go to Cosmetology School was based on my age and the time it would take me to complete the course. I currently attend Metroplex Beauty School in Mesquite, TX.
I should complete the course in 10 months, I have a year to complete.
(Full Time Tuesday - Saturday 9am - 5:30pm) If you attend on a part time basis it will take you a year & six months to complete. *All this depends upon your attendance.
I'm doing the Cosmetology Course; requires 1500 hours to graduate. Upon completion of your hours; if you want your license you must take the State Board test, written & practical.
There is a fee for the test. Dallas students are no longer required to go to Austin, TX to take the test. There is a location for testing in the City of Dallas.

Upon enrollment, I was taken on a tour of the school. My selection was based on the price of the school and recommendation from a friend. I was told: "It's best to learn to do all types of hair". Basically, African American, Latino & Cacsusian. I wanted to be prepared to work with all types of hair and thought it's the best way to go.
